Audrey Kawasaki

Audrey Kawasaki is quite a well known Japanese artist. She was born the 31st of March, 1982 in Los Angeles.
Her works are mainly oil painting and illustration, in which she sometimes introduces the cutting paper technique. She draws young women, or adolescents, usually naked. There is quite an erotical atmosphere in her work.
She directly paint onto wookd panels, and her style has been described as a type of art nouveau and Japanese manga. You can indeed notice the strong influence of Art Nouveau in her works.
She studied Fine Art painting in New York, but left after two years and didn't complete her degree.
She cites the emphasis in the New York art scene on conceptual art, an approach at odds with her figurative, illustrative style, as among the reasons she left. As of 2006, Kawasaki is considered a rising star in the Los Angeles art scene. In 2005, Kawasaki designed the cover art for Alice Smith's For Lovers, Dreamers & Me.
In 2011, singer Christina Perri was tattooed with Kawasaki's painting, "My Dishonest Heart", by Kat Von D on an episode of LA Ink.
You can find many pictures of tattoos of Kawasaki's drawings, i'll post a few here.
Her art is very impressive and is something that you hardly find anywhere else. What is mesmerising is the expressions she gives to her doll looking girls. It is a very mysterious, sensual, yet powerful and honest look . There is something in their look that remains undefined, can't catch the complete essence, but it's probably some of the beauty of it.  You could stare it for hours.
Get ready for a "little" gallery of pictures down here. There will be some bits and pieces of her work, and a bunch of tattoos. Eventhough they are not made by ther, she is the inspiration and it is interesting to see how they are copied.
